Taipei & Taroko Gorge

Taiwan is Southeast Asia's best-kept secret — underrated, efficient, safe, and packed with natural wonders and culinary delights. Night markets are a cultural institution where bubble tea was born. Taroko Gorge's marble canyon walls rank among Asia's most dramatic landscapes. Jiufen's misty mountain village inspired Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. Taiwan's high-speed rail connects everything effortlessly.

With kids

Yehliu Geopark's strange rock formations fascinate kids and adults. Night markets are safe and exciting — kids can try egg puffs, mango shaved ice, and stinky tofu (maybe). Taiwan's HSR is a thrilling train experience. Jiufen's steep narrow lanes require sure footing.

With seniors

Excellent accessibility — trains, MRT, and most attractions have elevators and ramps. Wulai hot springs are incredibly therapeutic. The HSR is smooth and comfortable. Pharmacies are plentiful. Healthcare in Taiwan is excellent and affordable.
