General Santos & Sarangani

General Santos — the Tuna Capital of the Philippines — is a booming Mindanao city outside the typhoon belt with warm, welcoming people and extraordinary seafood culture. Sarangani Bay is one of the Philippines' most pristine diving locations, teeming with whale sharks, thresher sharks, and dugongs. Maitum's Jar People pre-colonial jars (older than the Banaue terraces) are an underappreciated archaeological treasure.
