Dumaguete & Apo Island

Dumaguete — the 'City of Gentle People' — is a university town with a relaxed boulevard café culture and some of the Philippines' best dive sites nearby. Apo Island, 1 hour by boat, is one of the world's top sea turtle snorkeling experiences — a marine sanctuary where hawksbill and green turtles approach within arm's reach in waters managed by the local community since 1985.

With kids

Apo Island sea turtle snorkeling is unforgettable for children 8+ — turtles swim within arm's reach and no touching is allowed (excellent for teaching conservation). Manjuyod Sandbar is a shallow, calm white sandbar perfect for young children. Dumaguete's boulevard is perfect for evening walks and ice cream.

With seniors

Dumaguete is very flat and easy to navigate. Boulevard restaurants are accessible. Apo Island requires snorkeling — not suitable for seniors who can't swim, but the boat ride and island are enjoyable. Dumaguete has Silliman University Medical Center for healthcare.

Visa

Domestic. Philippine ID required. Apo Island marine sanctuary fees apply — mandatory guides required.
